How we Helped Tileflair Secure their Head of Marketing

18 Feb 2026

Tileflair approached Digital Tonic for support in hiring a replacement Head of Marketing. This is a key role for the business, and it was imperative to ensure the best candidate was secured to help take the business forward, whilst minimising disruption within the marketing team.

Tileflair is a 50 year old premium tile brand, with a long-standing, loyal customer base. The objective was to modernise their eCommerce presence whilst still retaining the customer-centric, independent company feel that their customers experience when they interact with the brand. It was important for this to be replicated across every touchpoint, so that the in-store and online experience were truly aligned.

The Challenge

Tileflair needed to recruit a unique role that combined eCommerce, Social Media, and in-person Trade Events. This niche requirement made it difficult to identify the right level of candidate and salary, and position the opportunity in such a way that would attract the right people.

“Stacey helped me understand the type of candidate who might be interested and salary expectation. She helped me re-frame the opportunity to one that would appeal to someone looking to broaden out their experience from just digital or just physical to include them both” – Matthew Johnson, CEO

Shaping the Role & Candidate Profile

Working closely with Matthew, Digital Tonic helped clarify the candidate profile, the skills and experience required, and mapped out the target salary within the current market. Digital Tonic also helped to position the opportunity attractively within the market. The role was reframed to appeal to those seeking to broaden their experience across both digital and physical channels, opening up a stronger pool of motivated candidates.

Targeted Search & Shortlisting

Digital Tonic removed the pressure from Matthew entirely, by sourcing candidates with a genuine interest, the right skill mix, and salary alignment. After conducting initial interviews and screening calls, the shortlist presented only high-quality individuals who accurately met the brief and were excited by the scope of the role. All candidates shortlisted by Digital Tonic were invited to interview.

Interview Support & Technical Assessment

Digital Tonic mapped out the entire interview process, as well as writing the final stage task brief and technical interview questions.

“As I have only a shallow knowledge of eCommerce, Stacey played an essential role by joining the interview to probe candidate’s technical knowledge leaving me to focus on personality, team fit and so on”

A structured post-interview technical assessment and scoring matrix was provided, which when taken into account alongside the cultural elements of the interview, helped drive an objective final decision.

The Outcome

The successful candidate was offered the role and readily accepted the offer, and joined at an exciting time shortly after the company’s acquisition. The process delivered clarity, confidence, and a seamless experience for Tileflair from start to finish.

Client Feedback

“Stacey is fun to work with whilst delivering the goods. She is flexible and willing to go the extra mile to ensure success. I would have no hesitation in recommending Stacey. She will rise to your challenge and stick at it until it’s resolved.”
